Ph.D. Stéphane Bouchard

Stéphane Bouchard détient la Chaire de recherche du Canada en cyberpsychologie clinique et enseigne la cyberpsychologie et la psychothérapie à  l'Université du Québec en Outaouais. En tant que praticien scientifique, ses réalisations en recherche témoignent d’une grande préoccupation pour développer des applications cliniquement utiles en cyberpsychologie et mener des études rigoureuses  sur le traitement des troubles d’anxiété et des autres maladies mentales. Ses projets de recherche actuels portent sur le développement d’environnements de réalité virtuelle pour traiter les troubles d’anxiété complexes et le jeu pathologique, la réalisation d’essais cliniques sur l’efficacité de l’exposition in virtuo pour les troubles d’anxiété, et mener des études expérimentales pour comprendre pourquoi la réalité virtuelle est un outil thérapeutique efficace. La télépsychothérapie représente un autre champ de recherche prolifique, où il mène des essais cliniques et des études de mécanismes sous-jacents à l’efficacité de la psychothérapie cognitive-comportementale appliquée en vidéoconférence. Son laboratoire de recherche héberge Psyché, la seule voûte immersive à six faces dédiée à la recherche en santé mentale. Il a reçu plusieurs prix et distinctions, incluant le prix Adrien Pinard en 2014 pour sa contribution au domaine de la psychologie.

 

Stéphane Bouchard holds the Canada Research Chair in Clinical Cyberpsychololgy and teaches cyberpsychology and psychotherapy at the Université du Québec en Outaouais. As a scientist-practitioner, his research shows a dedicated attention towards conducting both meaningful clinical applications of cyberpsychology and rigorous science to treat anxiety and other mental disorders. His current research projects involve developing virtual environments to treat complex anxiety disorders and pathological gambling, leading randomized control trials on the efficacy of in virtuo exposure for anxiety disorders, and conducting experimental studies to understand to why virtual reality is an effective treatment tool. Another prolific area of expertise is telepsychotherapy, where he conducts randomized control trials and processes studies on the efficacy of delivering cognitive-behavior therapy in videoconference. His research lab holds Psyche, the only six-sided total immersion virtual reality system dedicated to mental health research in the world. He has received numerous career awards, including the Prix Adrien Pinard in 2014 for his exceptional contribution to the field of psychology.
